Eating Disorders
Eating disorders include anorexia nervosa (a failure to maintain a healthy body weight), bulimia nervosa (binge eating followed by restricting or purging), binge eating, or excessive concern with weight and a poor body image. In addition, Dr. McFarland can also provide psychological evaluations for people considering bariatric surgery. She can also provide support throughout the process of having bariatric surgery, as this is typically a life changing event for most people. Eating disorders can affect both males and females. Multiple treatment options are available for people struggling with poor body image and disordered eating patterns. Dr. McFarland offers outpatient therapy for individuals and families struggling to maintain a healthy body weight and positive body image. Research in now indicating that outpatient therapy has more long-term recovery than in-patient treatment. Depending on the severity of your eating disorder, you may be asked to complete a medical evaluation stating that you are medically stable to participate in outpatient therapy. Typically, Dr. McFarland requests that you sign a release of information for her to be able to coordinate care with your medical doctor, dietician, and any other professionals who may be involved in your treatment.
