Trauma Recovery

Trauma consists of any experience in which a person's life was threatened (actually or perceived) or in which they witnessed someone's life being threatened.  Sometimes people can also be affected by trauma when someone close to them experiences a traumatic event in their life.  Trauma can be a result of being a victim of a crime such as; robbery, rape, physical or sexual abuse, domestic violence, or assault.  Having experienced a traumatic event may lead to both physical and emotional symptoms.  These may include; headaches, gastrointestinal problems, fatigue, insomnia, nightmares, reoccurring intrusive memories of the event, feeling anxious, easily frightened, and many other symptoms.  These symptoms can be treated through learning relaxation techniques, exploring feelings associated with the trauma in a safe environment, developing coping techniques, and other therapeutic strategies that help to minimize the impact of the trauma.
